ABSTRACT
In this chapter, a beginning teacher reflects on the importance of being true to oneself as a key component of gaining students’ respect. After attempting to emulate and please others either did not work or made her feel uncomfortable, this teacher discovered ways of interacting with students that fit better with who she is and her philosophy of education.
