ABSTRACT
In this chapter, a veteran teacher of 32 years who also coached football, rugby, and wrestling for 38 years, recounts what he has learned about teaching and classroom management. He highlights the three aspects of being a purposeful leader, which involves planning, assessment, and building relationships; being optimistic, which encompasses confidence, views of human nature, and rules; and using humor, which helps create a positive classroom environment.
