ABSTRACT

This chapter is based on my poems; I have understood the meaning of reconciliation is very important for newcomers to understand fully because it addresses the precolonial and colonial histories of First Nation communities in a truthful and honest context. In this chapter, through my poems, I explore how we can mend this relationship by acknowledging what happened in the past, understanding the social implications in the present, and figuring out a solution for the future. By exploring the meanings of reconciliation, I show how my responsibilities towards reconciliation bring empowerment as I feel I’m contributing to a better future in Canada for all Canadians. Through my poems, I see land as reconciliation. I feel Indigenous culture and Indigenous knowledge are crucial parts of mending wounds and creating bridges between Indigenous people and non-Indigenous people.
