ABSTRACT

This conclusion summarises the main thematic threads in this volume and charts a path forward for women’s economic empowerment (WEE) research, programming, and policymaking. It highlights the systemic, interconnected, and context-specific nature of constraints to WEE, including macroeconomic factors, labour market structures, unpaid care, and social norms, and argues that policies and programmes must target the structural issues that prevent women from achieving economic and social equality, accompanying, and integrated within, broader economic policies. Finally, it explores key areas where additional research and evidence are required to deliver transformative change and address the global challenges that continue to hinder progress on gender equality.
