ABSTRACT

Ìparadà literally means the act or state of changing from one form to another. Its meanings encompass “to disguise” (Abraham 1958), to shift and to turn. Apart from transformation, the performance-related meanings of ìparadà also cover transfiguration, transmogrification and metamorphosis. Ìyírapadà is a longer version of the word that emphasizes the “turning” aspect of its semantics, indicated by the verb particle yí introduced into the formation.
