ABSTRACT

In the period which started from July 2015 with the sudden end in peace negotiations between the Turkish state and the Kurdish movement, we have witnessed an intensification of violence. The chapter examines the broad-scale dynamics of the ongoing war as well as the neo-colonial legacies of the Turkish state. Based on Fanon’s work on the anti-colonial struggle, the chapter reflects on the geographical layout of Diyarbakır and reveals the line of forces it has been shaped by to address a series of questions: can we approach the Turkish state’s current policies in terms of a neo-colonial narrative? Does the occupation of Diyarbakir exemplify a new, neo-colonial modality of power?
