ABSTRACT

After nine decades of denial, military confrontation, and securitization of the Kurdish problem, the Turkish state agreed to open a new series of meetings with the Kurdish movement. Due to this relatively peaceful atmosphere, the Kurdish movement has promoted various activities. Yet, the Kurdish spring did not last long. Suddenly, the state has ended all meetings. This chapter tries to understand why the state has turned back to the old policy of denial and why the Kurdish movement could not challenge the state’s lure in the so-called peace process. The chapter examines the complicated relations between the two.
