ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the Webex program and describes using it in an upper-division research methods course. The authors first summarize the basic features of the Webex suite and discuss why the tool is well positioned to address a critical challenge in higher education: effective team-based learning. They then present the results of a summative assessment conducted over five semesters. Students indicate that the tool boosts efficacy in numerous ways, such as improving collaboration within student groups, fostering a sense of community in the classroom and increasing academic performance. A closing section offers advice to instructors interested in adopting collaborative tools in the future, drawn from both instructor experience and student feedback.
