ABSTRACT

The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology has called for a 34% increase in the number of STEM bachelor’s degrees yearly making recommendations toward achieving that goal. These include increasing active learning to improve critical thinking skills, engaging students in authentic Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) experiences, and encouraging partnerships among stakeholders to diversify pathways to STEM careers with an emphasis on the inclusion of non-traditional STEM students. The geography of New York Harbor is one of the major contributors to its historical, financial, and environmental importance. A tidal estuary that spills into New York Harbor and ebbs and flows with the ocean’s tide, supports a plethora of ecologically communities: Aquatic, amphibious, and terrestrial. The remote emergency plan relies on the virtual communication of teachers, students, administrators, and parents through video conferencing and online lessons using a variety of virtual platforms.
