ABSTRACT
France has played a major role in introducing contemporary Chinese literature into Western countries. Since 2006, 11 books of Yan Lianke have been translated into French. In France, Yan has enjoyed a larger readership compared to other Chinese writers of our times, and his works have drawn quite a lot of critical attention. This chapter will start by presenting the general situation of the translation of Yan into French, especially the leading roles played by three translators, the literary agent, and the publishing house in the process of introducing the writer to France. In the second part, we will use a physiological framework borrowed from Albert Thibaudet to analyze the status quo and the characteristics of its reception. This chapter thus aims to conduct a general reflection on the current situation of Yan's translation and reception in France.
