ABSTRACT

Oral History (OH) methodology can be particularly useful to dance research because it centers deep and active listening and collaboration between interviewer and interviewee to co-create a living history. Park, along with other dance scholars and oral historians, Mary Marshall Clark, Clare Croft, Jeff Friedman, and Cassie Mey share how OH methods apply to their own research practices, and also why they believe that this method fits the practice of dance. In particular, Park introduces Oral History Cypher Method (OHCM, co-created with Dr. grace shinhae jun) as one application of OH methods to their research in hip hop dance studies.
