ABSTRACT

This chapter describes experimental and quasi-experimental research as methodologies that answer questions about causality and generalizability in dance education. Beginning with a description of a study conducted by Overby, methodological decisions involved in quasi-experimental research are highlighted. The seven steps of these methodologies are described in more detail with examples from undergraduate research studies conducted as part of the University of Delaware’s ArtsBridge Scholars program. Questions are offered throughout the chapter which guide the reader toward conducting their own rigorous and ethical study. The findings from experimental and quasi-experimental research are valuable evidence with which to advocate for a quality dance education for all students.
