ABSTRACT
“Thinking Statistically for Dance Research” provides (1) insight into how statistics influences decision-making, (2) tools to develop a statistical analysis plan (SAP), and (3) clarity with respect to concepts related to statistical planning and analytical processes. Statistics provides a framework of logic requiring thoughtful consideration. Thinking statistically goes beyond the execution of statistical testing, enabling the reader to better access the data’s meaning and insights. One does not need to be a quantitative researcher to benefit from the logic of statistical thinking. For qualitative researchers, this chapter provides a basic introduction to statistics and a logical framework to inform decision-making throughout the research process, thus aiding with a better understanding of data and reduction of bias. Thinking statistically penetrates all aspects of the research process, enabling a higher-level approach to methodology.
