ABSTRACT

Ageing comes with an increase in a range of social and psychological vulnerabilities, which means older adult suspects should be considered especially vulnerable when being interviewed. It is important to remember that many of these vulnerabilities can be accommodated by using proper investigative interviewing techniques. Emotions can be heightened in older suspects, especially if they are first-time offenders. Ensuring that the older adult suspect feels comfortable will facilitate the interview and increases fairness to the older adult suspect.
