ABSTRACT

Intellectual disorders as well as Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder are all overrepresented in suspects in the criminal justice system. Moreover, the impairments caused by the respective disorders have a profound effect on the vulnerabilities during investigative interviews. Accommodations can be made for these suspects and will differ based on the specific impairments experienced. This chapter will outline each disorder separately in terms of what it is, its prevalence, and how it can impact the interview process.
