ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book identifies rapport building as key to identifying vulnerability. It highlights that planning, once a vulnerability is known or suspected, is necessary to ensure that the manner in which the interview is conducted minimises the impact of the vulnerability on the integrity of the interview process. The book provides an understanding of various specific vulnerabilities that may be encountered by police in interviews with suspects. For police officers to effectively interview vulnerable suspects, they need to possess skills in rapport building and planning, as well as have an understanding of the way in which specific vulnerabilities may impact the interview process.
