ABSTRACT
Chapter 1 considers vulnerability as a concept, exploring the way it has been traditionally defined and operationalised in the criminal justice system. Drawing on recent research, the argument is made to broaden the definition from specific to more general, recognising the inherent vulnerability of suspects involved in the criminal justice system.
