ABSTRACT

Violent conflicts are painful, especially for communities that are victims of organized killings, genocide, or pogroms. They leave deep scars upon the sufferers, individuals and societies, and affect the community for generations. It acquires even more painful manifestations when the victims are denied justice and dignity and have to face minimization or denial of the incident altogether. The Holocaust is one such incident wherein many continue to raise doubts about the occurrence of the mass killing of Jews at the hands of the Nazis. Denial or minimization of the Holocaust continues to be widespread especially among Muslim communities globally. This chapter is an outcome of a systematic study of portrayal of the Holocaust in the Indian Urdu newspapers between 2010 and 2014. The aim of the study is to highlight the issue of Holocaust denial, generate wider awareness about it, and contribute to bridging the divide between communities.
