ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the online colonial nostalgia practices of Portuguese individuals who returned from Angola. With the end of the empire, the Portuguese who returned from the former colonies dispersed throughout the Portuguese territory (former metropolis). This dispersion created a social need for reunion. This need to meet up that is at the origin of face-to-face interactions (lunches, dinners, parties) is also at the origin of the use of online social media for a similar purpose. As an open door to the anthropological research on Internet 2.0, this chapter aims to analyse the content and interactions of the Retornados e Refugiados de Angola [Returnees and Refugees from Angola] Facebook group, the largest online group of Portuguese retornados.
