ABSTRACT
My title alludes to present-day claims, by Kurzweil and others, that we are about to witness a singularity – namely the moment in history when Artificial Intelligence and robotics will overtake the collective intelligence of the human. I appropriate their term to call out an earlier but equally momentous event: the moment when organization begins to dominate the drives of the individual and subjects them to its ordering principles.
