ABSTRACT

A précis of the history of the Frankish castle of Ibelin, erected in 1141 to curb raids from Fatimid Ascalon, and the site’s role in Ayyubid and Mamluk times, is followed by an overview of the scant archaeological work on the castle’s ruins. Then the results of Avi Buzaglo Yoresh’s employment, in 2020, of drone-borne optical and thermal cameras and fluxgate magnetometers, are presented. They have allowed for the preparation of a tentative plan of the castle and its faubourg.
