ABSTRACT

This chapter is on Goswami’s plans to write a novel named Unhappy Youth on ULFA’s struggle given the present atmosphere of unrest in Assam. The people of Assam have witnessed the incinerating fire of violence and counter-violence every moment in the last few decades. This violence has already cost the lives of many Assamese youths and their dreams of a bright future. While collecting material for her novel, she was introduced to a world that left her with no choice but to be appalled. On the field looking for source materials for Unhappy Youth, the realisation dawned on Goswami that simply writing a novel would not in any way help solve the issue Hence, she began to invest more in thinking about how to bring peace to the state. This spurred her to submit a proposal for a peace talk between the ULFA and the GOI to the Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh. The proposal that she gave was based on the sincere intention to see peace instead of violence in Assam. It was in no way unconstitutional. She claimed that she did not have any wish of personal gain or fame behind this.
