ABSTRACT

This chapter narrates the experiences of Indira Goswami on her visit to G.B. Road’s prohibited neighbourhood. It was with Santosh Singh that she went to that prohibited area on 13 July 1984. The avenues of Delhi were caked in the blood of the Sikhs. In the midst of all these too, Santosh had somehow pushed his three-wheeler into that prohibited neighbourhood, negotiating his path with strange maneouvers and great efficiency. A dark and dingy flight of stairs led to a room where she came face to face with a crowd of prostitutes. Strange laughters, cahoots, slang words, curses surrounded her from all the directions.
