ABSTRACT
In this chapter, Aruni Kashyap tries to address the question his friend asked him in 2004 in Delhi: ‘Why is Indira Goswami so great a writer?’ He further opines that even though his introduction to Mamoni baideo’s works was through her English translations, Pages Stained with Blood, The Man from Chinnamasta and The Moth Eaten Howdah of a Tusker, it is she who has introduced themes that were never before explored in Assamese literature. Kashyap who is accredited with the translation of one of Goswami’s works maintains that she is difficult to translate. Also, here he tries to talk about her influence on young writers and the style and concerns in her writings. This is a humble tribute to Indira Goswami by a representative of the younger generation.
