ABSTRACT

In this chapter, Geeti Sen and Sanjoy Hazarika take an interview with Indira Goswami. They discuss the recent developments in Assam, peace talks, negotiation of the GOI with the banned ULFA and applauded Goswami for taking steps to bring the problems in Assam to the centre, to the attention of the Prime Minister. Goswami throws light on how this whole process of negotiation that stretched over a period of seven months come to a point where the Prime Minister is informed of ULFA’S point of view. Also, discussions are woven around the 11-member committee with Goswami and Revati Phukan as the coordinators of the peace process, the talk with the government on behalf of ULFA, how the process is taken forward and the benefits, if not immediate, of this for the people of Assam and the Northeast.
