ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we highlight the SistUH Scholars initiative at the University of Houston. This initiative provides a gathering space for Black women doctoral students within the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies to assist in doctoral socialization within the academy and to collectively support each other’s personal well-being, professional development, and career advancement. Through our first-person narratives as faculty co-investigators and doctoral student participants, we provide reflections and insights about cultivating spaces for Black women faculty supporting Black doctoral women and the implications for policies and practices for supporting Black women in the academy.
