ABSTRACT

BRICS is seen in Russia as the most important geopolitical event after the start of the twenty first century. It seeks to create a polycentric arrangement with a collective leadership of five regional powers. The group, which was originally seen as non-western economic alliance of emerging powers aimed at limiting western economic hegemony gradually, became the group that resists the unipolarity of the world system and strives to build more just polycentric global order.

The chapter discusses the existing discourses on BRICS in Russia. It analyses this organisation from an IR perspective specific to Russia. The focus in on Russia’s normative and geopolitical interests as articulated by leaders and agencies involved in the making of foreign policy. Russia’s economic and strategic relations with other members have also been discussed.
