ABSTRACT

Most of us do not fully understand what it means to be blind/partially sighted, too often working with a deficit model when considering visual impairment and blindness. This chapter describes sensory photography developed by Ojos que Sienten (Sight of Emotion) and the different ways it conceptualizes sight, photography, and the attendant expectations, judgments, and experiences that exist across all. Based in Mexico City, Mexico, Ojos que Sienten has developed sensory photography workshops with blind/partially sighted people. The processes and final work ask us to recognize and connect holistically with the diversity of our collective identities, stories, and lived experiences.
