ABSTRACT

I have been invited to offer a reflection on the works of Rev. Fr. Placide Tempels, especially his Bantu Philosophy, published in 1946 during his missionary activities in colonial Africa. The most important thing we want to find out is whether Tempels’s work can be considered or is a contribution towards dialogue between Western philosophy and African Vitalogy or whether it is incompatible with African categories of thinking and vision of the world. Furthermore, the chapter considers whether Tempels’s work reinforces conflict or convergence between Africa and the West.
