ABSTRACT

Small businesses have had to deal with multiple uncertainties during the COVID-19 pandemic. This has raised questions about how to handle the constant pressure to respond to health needs, but at the same time to consider financial and social implications. As a result of this hesitation, small businesses have had to embrace more of an entrepreneurial spirit. This has enabled them to be more risk-taking but also to act in an innovative and proactive way. The aim of this chapter is to understand the role of entrepreneurial passion and entrepreneurial opportunity in times of the COVID-19 crisis, thereby enabling a more comprehensive examination of the way small businesses respond to risk in times of uncertainty.
