ABSTRACT

Sara Prins Hankinson, a clinician in cancer care, and Kate Collie, a researcher and developer, have been involved in distance art therapy in Canada and launched CancerChatCanada in 2013. This chapter describes the path that led Sara to the virtual art therapy groups she hosted in 2020 in response to COVID-19. Many clients appreciate that they can access virtual art therapy from home, thus eliminating the need to travel. However, younger clients in particular have voiced that they miss the face-to-face connection of an in-person art therapy group. This chapter presents the structure of online group sessions and draws on many of the client responses in its discussion.
