ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the history, benefits, and role of online connection to build professional relationships, share information, create support, and foster a sense of belonging within the art therapy community. Examples highlight the sustaining impact and implications of digital community for emerging and practicing art therapists, including how the COVID pandemic shed new light and considerations about the necessity of online connection for the field. An art therapy and technology time capsule explores how digital community might look like for art therapists in the future. Time capsule contributors envisioned that, by 2030, art therapists may be using telecommunication technology worldwide as a preferred mode of engagement to work with clients, expand access, collaborate with colleagues, and easily conduct global research and outreach.
