ABSTRACT
The chapter consists of a short introduction into this volume and starts with some general reflections on memory, translation, and the interconnection of the two concepts and phenomena. It then presents the volume’s specific focus: The investigation of literature and testimony dealing with memories of pasts marked by politically and ethnically motivated violence as well as their interlingual and cultural translations. Finally, it gives a brief overview of the current state of research and introduces the different chapters of the volume.
