Leaving Dublin on Sunday, 6 March, Swift arrived in London toward the middle of the month, carrying a manuscript of Gulliver’s Travels 1 I suspect that he travelled with Charles Ford, who went over about the same time. 2 Certainly, Swift took lodgings near Ford, in Bury Street (‘next door to the Royal Chair’). 3
