ABSTRACT

Since 2019, Tomoe Kobayashi and Simon Moers have been meeting and observing puppeteers on the occasions of Shinto ceremonies and local folk festivals in Japan. The objective of the two researchers is to participate in the diversification of the representation of Japanese puppetry to those outside of its original country, through the observation of this art in rural environments. At the beginning of 2020, they were able to accompany the Awadeko Hakomawashi Preservation Society and their practitioners during their annual kadozuke tour.
