ABSTRACT

In fact, in reviewing some of the chapters just a few months after their original date of publication in the European Journal of Psychoanalysis, quite a number of their observations seem hopelessly outdated, just as surely as this introduction will prove to be at some point. The following essays were all culled from two larger sets of essays focused on the coronavirus that were published in the European Journal of Psychoanalysis starting in February 2020. While this is important to bear in mind, the aim of this introduction does not necessitate an exhaustive rendition of Agamben's work nor an examination of how he reconfigures the thought of the three philosophers into novel forms of theoretical expression. The necessary context for Agamben's pronouncements regarding the pandemic is provided in the first part of the introduction. The chapter concludes with the notion that current political disorder is not an attempt by leaders to seize control and power.
