ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the relationship between mind wandering, mindfulness and creativity. First, we describe what mind wandering is and discuss its relationship with creativity. Second, we define mindfulness and comment on its link with creativity. To conclude, we present an integrative model of the creative process that integrates attentional dispositions. We argue that in order to understand how mind wandering and mindfulness relate to the creative process we may need to go beyond an all-encompassing definition of these constructs, since they are part of a multi-dimensional continuous experience instead of two discrete processes. Specifically, understanding and researching their influence on creativity may require decomposing how specific features and facets of these two constructs interact during the different stages of the creative process. We conclude the chapter by presenting educational implications.
