ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the design thinking process and includes a brief history of its origins. Similar to how designers use design thinking to improve the lives of the people for whom they design, creators of socially-concerned transmedia stories can leverage the tools and activities of design thinking to inspire social, political, or environmental, change through story. The chapter highlights a number of strategies focused on end-user empathy and how those can apply to storytelling that evokes emotion and inspires in users and audiences.
