ABSTRACT

This chapter features a conversation between transmedia documentary producers Matt Slaby and Tomas van Houtryve about the context, ethos, and process behind van Houtryve’s Lines and Lineage transmedia documentary photography and video project along the former U.S.-Mexico border. The project creates a visual survey of the western United States as it might have appeared before 1848, and how the socio-political history there resonates today.
