ABSTRACT

For social researchers, rhythm has come to be regarded as a valuable tool for the study of everyday life. This chapter asks what might be gained by considering the rhythms of social research itself. Through a case study of a recently conducted project, this chapter examines the affordances of planning for and reflecting upon the rhythms which are inherent to our research practices. It argues that applying a rhythmanalytical lens to one’s practice allows for those parts of the methodology which are often overlooked to be examined. The chapter represents, more broadly, a call for a more rhythmically attentive and attuned approach to social research.
