ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the practical play-based applications of the therapeutic use of natural elements with children and adolescents to treat trauma through the integration of nature-based play and EMDR therapies will be explored. This integrative approach allows mental health therapists to support child and adolescent clients through the reprocessing of traumatic events that could otherwise leave them feeling emotionally stuck for years, impacting the way they approach their world. Nature can offer a deep sense of connection and equilibrium to the autonomic nervous system, which is especially supportive when healing from the effects of traumatic events.
