ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on nature-based child-centered play therapy (NBCCPT), which is the integration of child-centered play therapy (CCPT) within the natural environment. We present research supporting the benefits of time in nature and CCPT for children. Additionally, we discuss various components of the model, including the selection of a natural space and the development of the natural playroom containing a variety of natural materials. The chapter also includes a discussion of considerations related to using NBCCPT, including confidentiality, limit setting, and safety concerns. Moreover, the authors review research supporting the use of NBCCPT. Finally, the authors present a case related to the use of NBCCPT with a child exhibiting adjustment concerns and discuss the treatment outcomes.
