ABSTRACT

This case study describes how Codman Academy Charter Public School adopted a trauma-informed lens as part of its whole-child approach to education. Readers will learn why Codman Academy adopted its trauma-informed approach and how it is woven into seven focus areas: building design, teacher development, embracing the whole child, safety, community involvement, accountability, and adaptability. They will also be introduced to some of the school’s trauma-informed strategies and practices and learn how the school has overcome challenges in implementing a trauma-informed approach.
