ABSTRACT

This case study describes how the Cottonwood School of Civics and Science has embedded civic education and engagement into their place-based education (PBE) program. Readers will learn about the steps school leaders and teachers took to build an authentic PBE program and some of the challenges they have encountered along the way. They will also find examples of how teachers are using PBE to teach civics across the grade levels and helpful tips for implementing place-based civic education in their own classrooms.
