ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights and situates the importance of centering critical race perspectives within police training. It includes Black criminological perspectives which are often erased from criminal justice dialogue and therefore rarely considered during policy-making procedures. Without the leadership and theoretical guidance of Black Criminology and Criminal Justice, practitioners who develop programs and practices will face difficulties in their attempt to hire, train, and promote holistically ethical law enforcement leaders. To address this shortcoming, this chapter is organized to provide introductory insights into a variety of contemporary Black Criminology and Criminal Justice topics.
