ABSTRACT

This chapter will help the reader to understand how to promote the development of language, literacy and communication for young children up to the age of seven. It shows the link between all strands of communication and the holistic development of children. The chapter discusses some of the challenges brought about by the national lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic and how educational settings can be inclusive to children with different communication needs. Readers are given examples of challenges in early years settings and Key Stage 1 and gives practical examples of how to promote reading for pleasure across the age ranges. Further research and resources are given to develop the readers understanding of the topics.
