ABSTRACT

Quality practice

This chapter shows how the early years sector continues to be a contested space; we know through our day-to-day practice and research that high-quality provision can have a significant influence on the outcomes for babies and children. A healthy brain depends on a stable foundation of responsive adults who promote multi-sensory early learning environments.

Practitioners should have a clear understanding of the importance of their contribution for children’s development, how they can support learning and development though a safe and secure environment, where relationships encourage exploration, creativity, scaffolding and sharing interests to promote holistic development. The UNCRC 1990 highlights the importance of children having access to education as competent beings, where they gain mastery and new experiences in a constructed environment based on value, beliefs, interests and quality. These go hand in hand with management practices to support children to be resilient to the changes and learning dispositions needed in their world.
