ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses upon planning for children’s care and education. There is a section on different types of planning and ways to produce plans that are inclusive and workable and a section on implementing plans and activities and evaluation.

The importance of planning as a process are discussed, along with how to plan as an inclusive team whilst also maintaining flexibility and spontaneity.

The chapter emphasises the need for planning for the individual needs of the child by involving families and the children themselves; it shows that this involves evaluation and reflection, providing a connective flow from the previous chapter.

A range of theories of play and planning are discussed and critically reviewed. They emphasise that there is no definitive method of planning and there is no right or wrong way to plan, simply the importance of having a clear plan for learning.
