ABSTRACT

Simon Fischer, a British violinist, artist-pedagogue, and writer, was born into a musical family. Fischer’s profound theoretical and practical knowledge of string pedagogy, combined with an insatiable curiosity, acute observations, intensely sensitive musicianship, and the skill for clear and elegant writing, makes him an erudite string pedagogue. Fischer also highlights widening of the hand at the base joints as one of the most important components of good left-hand setup. Fischer shares insights for each interval to improve the execution of double-stops. Igor Ozim, a Slovenian concert violinist, is one of the most sought-after teachers in the world. His 70-plus-year-long teaching career includes posts at the Musikhochschule Cologne, Hochschule der Künste Bern, and the Mozarteum University Salzburg, master classes, and judging international violin competitions. Fischer places a major importance on the inclusion of forearm rotation during the journey from the frog to the tip of the bow (heel to point). Forearm rotation is not to be used only for string crossing.
