ABSTRACT

Teaching the bass to students younger than 14 years old is still a fairly new endeavor. While American public schools began to adopt string education in the mid-twentieth century, the double bass lagged in suitably sized instruments and pedagogic materials appropriate to the young learner. The availability of fractional instruments grew in the 1990s along with the interest in building pedagogy for children, thanks in large part to the Yorke Mini Bass Scheme in London and the explorations of the Bass Project in America.1 This chronological annotated bibliography explores notable texts for teaching beginning and intermediate double bass students.
